The President of ASD has restated that “Grassroots sports development remains the only route to rebuilding the country’s sport at the national level.”
He said this at the maiden edition of the KEKE-AGEGE COMMUNITY BAALE’S CHALLENGE CUP in honor of High Chief Liadi Ajagunna.
Sport is a powerful tool to strengthen social ties and networks. In addition, sport has been proven an effective catalyst for promoting ideals crucial for peaceful, locally-driven development.
Grassroot Soccer exemplifies how sports can enhance the effectiveness of unity and improved health. The best values of sports, integrity, inclusiveness, and empowerment, mutually reinforce other public health and youth empowerment objectives.
The program concurrently engages youth and communities to come together, strengthening community support and progress.
while speaking with Agegetv Agege, the president said “Grassroots sport if given serious attention will help discover talents thus bringing about development to the Community at large which will in return have a positive effect on the Country”
During the opening ceremony which ushered in the first two matches played to kick off the tournament between Emiloju St. vs. Abeokuta St. and Suru St. vs. Oshungboye St.
Agege Tv Online, caught up with the Leader of Agege Lga. Legislative arm: Hon. Anigbajumo Akolawole , he said “an event like this will give talent hunters an opportunity to scout for skillful and talented young football players capable of making the Community proud.”
He enjoined the Organizers not to relent on their efforts in promoting peace, unity, love and healthy relationships amongst the youths and other members of the Community to bring about Progress and Development”
In the same vein the High Chief of the Community, also advised the Organizers to remain united and not allow the love of money or desperation bring discord amongst them.
He said, ” It’s my wish and prayer that young football players will be discovered here and get international recognition”
The football Competition continues in the new week, as different streets within the Community will continue to slug it out with each other as they aim for the trophy.
“Meanwhile, the Challenge Cup will go a long way to build Youths in their capacity and motivates them to succeed independently.”
” GrassrootSoccer model’s effectiveness is significantly improving students’ knowledge, attitudes, communication, decision-making skills and reducing risky behaviors, says Ademola Oni the Convener.”
Evaluations have also shown that Grassroot Soccer program will have positive impact on knowledge, attitudes, stigma, and communication amongst the youths.
